Guerilla Union, the live events company behind events such as the Paid Dues Indie Hip Hop Festival and the Cypress Hill Smokeout Festival, announced this afternoon that Snoop Dogg, A Tribe Called Quest, DJ Premier, and special guest Lauryn Hill will be joining the Rock the Bells 2010 tour. The initial lineup, already epic due in part to headliners Wu-Tang, Rakim, KRS-One and Slick Rick, was announced on March 24th at the Rock the Bells Launch Party.

The 7th Annual Festival Series is notorious for their “historical hip-hop” moments. In 2004, Chang Weisberg (owner and founder of Guerilla Union) successfully gathered the entire Wu-Tang Clan to headline the show, including Ol’ Dirty Bastard right before his untimely passing later that year. In 2007, they reunited Rage Against the Machine and took the tour to major cities across North America, Canada, and Europe. The summer of 2010 will be no exception to this unwritten tradition.

All the headliners are slated to perform their respective most influential albums in its entirety, front to back, track for track. This means Snoop Dogg will perform Doggystyle, A Tribe Called Quest will perform Midnight Marauders, Wu-Tang will perform Enter the 36 Chambers, Rakim will perform Paid In Full, KRS-One will perform Criminal Minded, and Slick Rick will perform The Great Adventures of Slick Rick. In addition, the lovely, the legendary Ms. Lauryn Hill will prepare a unique set exclusively for Rock the Bells, performing songs from Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, selects from her work with The Fugees, and more. One of the more significant performances will be DJ Premier’s tribute to Gang Starr and the late and great Guru.

Other artists featured on the bill include Street Sweeper Social Club (Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Boots Riley of The Coup), Murs and 9th Wonder, Clipse, Brother Ali, Yelawolf and more.

The Rock the Bells trek will stop at four major North American markets this summer, kicking off on August 21 at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, CA. The tour will continue on to Shoreline Amphitheater in San Francisco on August 22, Governer’s Island in New York on August 28, and will wrap up at Merriweather Pavilion in Washington D.C. on August 29.
