Synthesia: Learning Real Instruments…The Rock Band Approach
September 24, 2010 in Music, Tech by Alvin Dharmawan
Augmented Reality is slowly making its way to popularity. With last week’s post about the agumented reality magazine by SZ, there seems to be more and more things augmented reality popping up here and there. This time we look at an innovative way to play the piano similar to Rock Band, but a lot more useful. Synthesia is a program that lets you visualize what you play instead of the old fashioned reading-music-notes-off-a-book. Since this approach is practically like playing a video game, the speed and difficulty of the song that you want to play can be slowed down or speed up to match the users skill level. If you are new to the piano, Synthesia will also let you break down the music leaving the user the option to play on separate hands before moving on to both. The whole general idea of this learning process is idealistic, especially with this new era of countless video gamers. What probably intrigues me the most is that it can even be revolutionizing, we can only ponder the possibility this innovative way of learning the piano move on to other instruments.
The program cost $25, if you’re unsure about buying it there is a trail version that you can fiddle with. Since this is a program , there are millions of downloadable songs that are compatible with it and are free. Finding them is just as simple as Googling it.
I’ll leave you here with two videos to speak for itself. Download the trail or buy the program here.
